Day 1: Aru to Lidderwat
- Gentle climb from Aru to Lidderwat, covering 10 km in 6 hours
- Altitude Gain: 342 m
- Look out for two clear streams and a wooden bridge before Lidderwat
- Pass through Nandkei, a cluster of Gujjar settlements across the Lidder river
- Explore meadows and clear streams at Lidderwat
- Camp for the night at Lidderwat
Day 2: Lidderwat to Shekwas
- Altitude gain: 480 m in 5 hours, covering 6 km
- Mostly ascending trail with flat grounds and a river crossing
- Pass through pine forests and clearings, reaching wide grasslands
- Swift climb past Gujjar huts to Shekhwas camping grounds
- Camp for the night at Shekhwas
Day 3: Camp at Tarsar and move to Sundarsar the next morning
- Covers 5 km in 5 hours with a pass crossing
- Steep ascent, descent, and a final gentle ascent to Sundarsar
- Sundarsar lake is smaller but equally beautiful
- Optional trek to Marsar, a closed lake in a cauldron
- Explore meadows around Marsar
- Camp for the night at Sundarsar
Day 4: Tarsar to Sundersar, optional visit to Marsar
- Covers 5 km in 5 hours with a pass crossing
- Steep ascent, descent, and a final gentle ascent to Sundarsar
- Sundarsar lake is smaller but equally beautiful
- Optional trek to Marsar, a closed lake in a cauldron
- Explore meadows around Marsar
- Camp for the night at Sundarsar
Day 5: Visit Marsar, and get down to Sonamasti
- Climb to Marsar at an altitude of 13,170 feet
- Descend to 11,000 feet, covering approximately 8 km in 6 hours
- Sonamasti valley has a sharp drop with grassy ledges, streams, and waterfalls
- Camp for the night at Sonamasti
Day 6: Sonamasti to Sumbal Sonamarg
- Descend 4500 feet, covering 11 km in about 5 hours
- Trek ends at Sonamarg from Sumbal
Note: Campsite distances may vary by 100 meters depending on weather conditions and chosen routes. Altitude may also fluctuate by 100 feet due to similar factors.
